In the language of flowers the orchid is said to have many meanings: love, delicate beauty, refinement, thoughtfulness and many children. There are approximately 22,000 types of orchids and with the exception of glaciers and desert climates they grow in every environment on planet earth. The put even a finer point to our beloved orchids~ the Victorian era, while by all accounts was a bit lusty, was very circumspect about communications. Even the choice of color in a flower could hold covert meanings.
Our North Carolina Arboretum, only 20 minutes from our bed and breakfast, sponsored by the WNC Orchid Society, will be hosting the 2017 Asheville Orchid Festival on Saturday, March 25th and Sunday March 26th 9 a.m. -5 p.m. each day. The per car fee will be collected at the gate per usual and entrance to the Orchid Festival is $5.
Nothing teams so well with flowers as music which will be richly woven through this festival by Pan Harmonia. For those not living in Asheville this group’s signature is a special blend, as only Ashevillians can render, of chamber music. I am personally as excited to get to hear this awesome group again as I will be to see what I know will be the very best of orchids from Equador and all across the United States.
Per usual, some of these plants will be displayed for sale during this event. A plant or flower is such a personal and thoughtful gift and this will be the perfect place to locate a really special orchid for the “orchidist” in your life.
Should you wish to make a real occasion of it, Savory Thyme Cafe is offering dinner by reservation and also snacks throughout the day.
We still have a few rooms left and hope to host you At Cumberland Falls Bed and Breakfast Inn.
