Asheville has garnered notoriety for a number of things. It has been named Happiest city, Beer City, Best Place to Retire to name just a few. Asheville, for those of us who call this place home, is known for its heart.
We are a city of folks who believe in volunteerism and actively participate in this concept both with our time and our money.
One of the lesser known facts of our city is that our reasonably small town ranks a very proud Number 5 in the country for its donation to Western North Carolina AIDS Project. Whether you are gay or straight, it’s more than likely that at some point in your life you will know and possibly love someone living with HIV.
The concept of Dining Out began in Philly, some 23 years ago in 1991 and has now burgeoned into 55 cities in the United States and Canada. The food buzz in Asheville, discussed at length in my earlier blogs, drives this event into the stratosphere here. Asheville Independent Restaurants remains a sponsor but more than 117 breweries and restaurants will be active participants in the 2014 Dining Out for Life in our city. Please go to the website included at the end of this blog to find information about all the very generous restaurateurs in our city that are donating 20% of the proceeds to this very needed project changing the lives of so many.
If you want to enjoy a great meal in support of this project while visiting Asheville, we’d be honored to host your stay. We are only a 15 minute walk to downtown Asheville. Participation can be for breakfast, lunch or dinner. For our guests, they will already have benefit of a top shelf 3-course gourmet breakfast served by candlelight but our very convenient location can put them in easy reach of a lunch or dinner that will make for both a delighted palate and a happy heart for helping others. If dining out this week in a participating city, try and make it Thursday, April 24 2014. It’s a great thing when having a fantastic meal and helping the lives of so many can be accomplished at the same time. Go to this URL for a list of participating restaurants:
