Cocoa Recipe To Share with A Friend

2 white cups of cocoa with marshmellow on wooden table. Red napkins folded too.

My friend Susan moved from what used to be both our homes- Florida to Maggie Valley a few years ago.  We were already living in Asheville and had been running our Asheville Bed and Breakfast for many years.

Susan and I have known each other since we were…Well, there’s no other way to say it…Girls!  We met when we were both very young mothers and nursing students.  We have been friends for nearly 40 years.  Motherhood, nursing school, endless study sessions and my attendance at both the labors and  the births of both of her children have cemented a friendship that is solid, longstanding and has been through the trials, joys, sadness, successes and failures of both of our lives. That’s strong stuff.

We have helped each other though the days of our lives and we can both remember when the other was a mere girl.  I don’t get to see Susan as often as I’d like to -the distance between our towns and the demands of running an inn are strenuous. Often, we don’t even talk, sufficing only to see each others FB or Google Plus Posts to see what’s shaking with the other.  Susan is retired and travels with her husband Mike a good bit.

We got together last year for lunch which we often do when she and Mike come to Asheville and as it was close to Thanksgiving and we didn’t know if we’d see each other before Christmas she brought along a wonderful gift.  I was touched as it was homemade.  I have enjoyed it all year long and thought to share it with you all.  I know your friends will like it too. Every time I had a cup of this lovely mix, Susan came to mind along with all the crazy times we’ve had through the years.  I have nursed (no pun intended) the quart jar of this fine mixture which was presented to me for one entire year saving it only for the special occasion of remembering long time friends.  It has served that purpose well.

Clean Quart Ball Jar/Baggie or Celo Bag if only giving a serving or two

A bit of pretty ribbon for tying on the top for pretty.

A fun mug can or cannot be included in this gift.

Hot Chocolate Mix:  40 Servings

6 cups of powdered milk
4 cups of 10X Confectioners Sugar
3 cups good quality Dutch-Processed Cocoa (I use Hershey’s always)
1 T. Cinnamon
1/8 tsp. of Cayenne
1/2 salt.

You can add peppermint or chips but I am a purist in Hot Cocoa Land and just love this recipe.  I hope your friends like it.
