At Cumberland Falls Bed and Breakfast Inn was originally built in 1902. Those of you who have graced her halls in the nearly 12 years we have owned our inn know that this home has worn many hats over her years from ranging from Bible Repository, to boarding house to private residence and now a bed and breakfast. While she is a grand old girl; every woman needs her upkeep. Through the years since our purchase of this “wonder of Victorian architecture” we have noted (as all owners of older homes will tell you) that a large part of keeping your home well kept and spiffy is to address things in a proactive manner. In other words, don’t wait until it is broken to begin the fix. We have altered air conditioning to provide greater guest comfort, replaced the back porch, painted and winterized our inn, enhanced the man made waterfalls in the back, broadened the size and scope of our gardens and all this in addition to ensuring that it has “wow” quality from a guest perspective.
The Lion’s Den remains the favorite room in our home for my husband but after a critical, if loving, look at its faux paint, we have determined that our beloved Lion’s Den needs a bit of fine tuning on the walls. So, we are now exploring colors, character and paint processes to determine what the new wall decor will be. No worries Lion’s Den lovers, we will keep the flavor of this well loved room seeking only to make a good thing extraordinary. Keep posted for new pictures and the “reveal” of the Lion’s Den new wall look.
Chris Barrow, from Sundance Interiors, our trusty paint artist will, I am sure, make his customary magic.
He has maintained all the walls of our home since we purchased it and we marvel at his work. We think you have marveled at it too. So, I’ll end with an ode to the beauty and history of these old mansions kept alive by those of us who love them by John Keats.
A thing of beauty is a joy for ever:
Its loveliness increases; it will never
Pass into nothingness; but still will keep
A bower quiet for us, and a sleep
Full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing.
